Happy Chinese New Year !
A very warm greeting to you all from an equally warm (but very humid) central Vietnam -- in fact, it has been wetter here than I've ever seen in Bodmin !
I (Lệ Khanh) have been able to get away for a short break to visit my family in Vietnam, and to join them in celebrating the Chinese New Year (“Tết”) after a very successful Chinese New Year celebration at the Westberry Hotel on 28th January. On that evening we were delighted to be able to welcome nearly 140 guests to celebrate with us, with some excellent Oriental food, an abundance of drinks and great “self-entertainment” (karaoke) -- I don’t think we succeeded in finding "the Voice of Bodmin, but everyone was full of joy and happiness which was the main thing. We would like to thank all of our guests who came to celebrate with us, and all of our staff who worked extremely hard to ensure that the evening ran smoothly. If there were any amongst you who couldn't make it this year, we hope you will be able to join us next year instead -- please ask any of your friends/family who were able to attend to find our more about how the evening went. We are also considering putting on some other Oriental-themed evenings during the course of the year as this one proved so popular – perhaps a celebration of “Tết Trung Thu / 中秋節” (mid-autumn festival).
When we reopened the hotel on 16th January, the main part of the refurbishment work was already complete, but we wanted to carry on finishing off the details and decorations; there is still more to do, but you can see a picture (right) of our newly re-decorated hotel entrance and reception -- we hope you will agree that it now presents a much brighter, more welcoming and more cheerful ambience.
In February we started taking bookings for St Valentine's Day (an evening function) with a new French-themed menu from Fabrice, our French head chef. This will be followed by the re-launch of our Oriental buffet on Sunday 19th February. We have had many people telephoning to book for the buffet, but unfortunately for a number of reasons we were not able to offer this until later this month. We hope you will be able to join us on one or more of these events.
We also happy to be able to announce the lucky winner of the combined December/January feedback draw, Mr Tom Kinsey, who has won a St Valentine's Day meal for two on 14th February. Our sincere congratulations to Mr Kinsey, and we look forward to welcoming him and his Valentine as our guests of honour on St Valentine's Day.
